Philippe Starck is a French product designer and interior designer, born 18 January 1949 in Paris. He is equally well known as an interior designer, a designer of consumer goods, and for his industrial design and his architectural creations. Philippe Starck started his career in the 1980s.
Three decades of designing many NY hot spots, earned him a reputation as a nightlife impresario whose presence assures an attractive clientele and strict doormen. Designed the Bowery Bar, Fez, M.K. and Area. The Box nightclub mixed bottle service with burlesque. La Esquina is a taco stand that expanded the speakeasy trend. Miss Lily is a Jamaican restaurant. Part owner of Joe’s Pub, the intimate supper club at the Public Theater.
From his start as a club operator, Lewis quickly found acclaim and success as a interior designer, designing and building some of the nation’s most successful nightlife concepts, including Butter, Marquee, Stash, Snap Sports Bar, Home & Guesthouse, Webster Hall and SPA in New York City; Shampoo in Philadelphia; Brule'/32 Degrees Atlantic City; Stone Lotus in Chicago; TAO’s Opium Room in Las Vegas; and The Room at Harry O’s in Park City, Utah, among scores of others.
Ian began his professional career with Reiach and Hall Architects after graduating from Edinburgh College of Art. He formed the practice with co-director John Thompson in 2000 and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the practice including all projects undertaken by the office. He is also a regular visiting critic at Edinburgh and Napier University where he lectures on Professional Practice and Office Management.
